5 Amazing Ideas to Recycle Your Carpet!

When you install a new carpet, you’ll often buy extra to be on the safe side. If you have any alcoves or oddly shaped rooms, however,  there will often be offcuts too; or maybe you just took up your old carpet, but don’t want to waste it.

Rather than throw them away, its time to recycle your carpet!  

Here are 5 fabulous ideas for making the most of your extra carpet…

1 – Door Mats

In our blog about spring cleaning your carpet, we mentioned that an excellent way to keep excess dirt from your carpet is to use a door mat.  

If you’ve got excess carpet, this is a great way to repurpose it!

With a flare of edging, it’s easy to use an offcut or an old piece to recycle your carpet into a welcoming door mat. 

2 – Coasters

Especially for shorter pile carpets, with any excess coasters are an excellent way to recycle your carpet! 

Cutting them into small shapes (circles, squares, or even an Abingdon hexagon!) is an easy way to repurpose offcuts, especially odd scraps.

The next time you head out to your garden to plant or to remove those weeds, take along a scrap of carpet. You can fold the carpet up and place it under your knees while you work. 

Not only does this help you to keep your pants or legs from getting dirt or grass stained, it also serves as a cushion for your knees so you won’t be nearly as sore when you get up.

If you’ve got a green thumb, this is an extremely easy way to repurpose your carpets.

4 – Snow Traction

If you live somewhere especially cold and deal with snow regularly, carpet helps you to gain traction when you stick it under your wheels.  

This is a great trick and one that will save you a fortune over having to call a tow truck to get you going again. 

Just keep rather long strips of carpet rolled up in your trunk and grab them whenever you feel the need for additional traction.  A great way to recycle your carpet.

5 – Pet Care

If you’ve got a pet, you’ll know all about the cost of quality pet care items. It could be time for some DIY! 

Extra and old carpet is perfect to keep your furry friends happy – whether you pad their bed out and make it extra soft or use it to reinforce toys. 

If you’ve got a hard floor in any rooms, like vinyl or wood, the simplest idea is to throw down your scraps of carpet and let your pets chill out.
