Five Questions With: Charlotte Coop, Head of Marketing
Charlotte recently joined our team here at Abingdon as the Head of Marketing, find out more about how she works and what her job entails as the head of the team.
What is your role, and how long have you worked for Abingdon Flooring?
My role at Abingdon is to Head up the Marketing team. I have been with the company since the beginning of 2022. So not long, but everyone has made me feel extremely welcome, and I already feel part of the team.
What does a typical day entail?
I’ll be honest, there doesn’t seem to be a typical day! My first few weeks have been getting to know the team and generally settling in and understanding the business’s processes and functions. My department comprises Marketing, Merchandising and warehouse teams, so I have been spending some time with the crew, rolling my sleeves up and getting stuck in. The first marketing project I have has been to align the company’s branding. We have had several creative workshops with the teams to develop a new purpose, mission and vision alongside working with our graphic designer to implement a new look and feel for the Abingdon brand. This has been fundamental for me to get under the skin of the brand, who we are and what we are striving to achieve. We are really happy with the outcomes and currently rolling this out internally, and you will start to see this across all our marketing going forward.
PLANNING AHEAD
I’m now partway through the strategy plan, mapping our short term and long term objectives for the team. This will include a new website and SEO strategy, social media strategy and communications calendar. There is a lot to do, we have a small team, but really exciting and we are looking forward to seeing some positive results.
What are your recommendations to anyone looking to start a career in Marketing?
Get as much experience as possible, research and learn as much as you can. Marketing is extremely diverse, and there are lots of opportunities across different areas, from digital marketing, PR, communications, the list goes on. I would also recommend getting a good education with an organisation like the CIM. Their qualifications are industry recognised, and their support network is second to none. Most importantly, love what you do.
What’s the best aspect of your job?
I love to see a project from concept to launch, whether that’s a website, exhibition stand or brochure. To see something come to life is hugely satisfying.
Favourite Abingdon collection and why?
It has to be the new product Velveteer. The colours are modern and contemporary, and with 30 colours it suits all types of rooms and styles. We have some samples in the office, and the feel of it is lush. We can’t stop running our hands through it and are excited about seeing people’s reactions to it when we launch.
