When renovating your house and developing the way you want it to look and feel, it can be difficult piecing everything together. Sometimes, things just don’t fit like they’re supposed to; But we’ll make it easy to style carpet for you.
Don’t worry, we’re here to guide you through everything you need to know, and which carpet is best suited to what decoration and colour matches.
We’ll be focusing primarily on colour combinations, and the types of carpets that fit which room and environment.

Our Carpet Colour Analysis
There are, generally, a few easy questions to ask yourself when trying to figure out which carpet colour is best for your room.
They allow you to be able to get the most out of your carpet, and truly feel the benefit of it, no matter which room you’re in.
We suggest asking yourself these questions:
- Who will be using it? Will it be kept clean, or will you need to hide stains?
- What mood are you aiming for in the room? Warm, cool, modern?
- What kind of décor will you be using? What colourways match the décor?
- What is the outside effect on the room? Does it get natural light, does it need to open a space up?
All of this will help you to understand which carpet colour is best for your room, and narrow down the options.
You’ll be able to know whether you need a bright, colourful flooring to open up a space and bring warmth, or something that’s a completely different style carpet.

A great example of this is our Stainfree Olympus range shown in ‘Bluebell’ below. It is a perfectly chosen colour, as it fits the surroundings perfectly.
It invites light into a large open space, offers a plush feel underfoot, and compliments the main colour scheme throughout the room.
The colour of your carpet has a huge impact on the emotion and feeling of a room!
How Do I Style Carpet Colours?
Colour matching is something else that can completely change the feel and atmosphere of a room.
Below, we’ll be going through which colours match, and what styles they are frequently paired with, to ease you through your buying decision.
Colour matching in itself can be a big task to handle, and utilising it can sometimes be what trips you up. There’s either too much of one colour, or not enough.
If you want to wrap your head around colour usage in interior trends, we recommend this blog! It gives great tips not only on how to style carpet, but your environment in general.
Grey & Silver Carpet
Grey is one of the most popular choices – it’s so easy to style in carpet!
It pairs with almost any interior, and gives you a lot of room to work with it and style it your own way.
It has the ability to transform a space entirely – it’s able to look modern and clean in some settings, and look cosy and rustic in others!
Grey carpet does a great job at offsetting accent colours and balancing the atmosphere.
If you’re looking for which carpet is best for fitting to almost any design trend, grey carpet does an amazing job.
Take a look at our range Wild Silk, home to the Love Story range. Specialised for comfort and style, it offers a heathered grey effect to hide dirt and keep busy households going.

Here are some colours that are often matched with grey carpet:
- Earth tones
- Yellow
- Green (sage green is an especially good match)
- Navy blue
- Black and white
Beige & Natural Carpet
Another common choice for carpets is beige. Like grey, it’s an easy to style carpet choice and practical.
Beige carpet is often successful at hiding dirt and can look very sophisticated in selected settings.
Generally, beige carpet is used to warm spaces and give a natural base to your room. For example, our Balmoral Deluxe range in the shade ‘Light Wolfswood’.
Balmoral Deluxe uses an 80/20 wool blend with a range of natural, understated colours to bring serenity to your home and easy style-ability.

In terms of colours, here are the colours that best suite beige flooring:
- Neutral colours; grey, cream, other shades of beige
- Green
- Splashes of vibrant accent colours
White & Cream Carpet
Due to its ‘blank’ nature, white carpet can blend with almost any décor ideas you throw at it!
It works in monochrome designs (a big hitting trend for 2023!), rustic settings, and many, many more.
White carpet allows you to get more creative with the surrounding areas – without a more apparent colour or pattern, you can use those on the walls and in the decorations surrounding.
If you’re looking for a solid base to start building on, a white carpet is a great way to go.
A wonderful example is the shade ‘Cotton’, from our Stainfree Caress range. A stunning white, shown with a deep, rich purple wall and lilac accents.
This room has a warm, comfortable atmosphere, light and refreshing in the day, and laid back in the evening.

It goes without saying that white or cream carpets will generally match any colour they’re paired with.
Usually, it’s used as a change to use darker, richer colours in the home, which may look too intimidating usually.
Black & Charcoal Carpet
Black carpet pairs best with lighter walls and accent colours, as well as different textures and patterns as not to draw you in to the floor so much.
In terms of which carpet is best for hiding dirt and accidents, you can’t go wrong with a sleek black option!
Black carpets work excellently with natural and biophilic design (another upcoming trend for 2023), utilising and making any greenery you have in the home really pop!
Take a look at our Love Story, Deep Feelings range in the shade ‘Welsh Slate’; a plush, saxony flooring. The colour is powerful, but not too deep, to open up the room and pull the décor together.

Black carpet, much like white, generally pairs with any colour, but is better off with lighter colours, so that the room doesn’t feel too compact and dingy.
Some of the best options are:
- Pastel or rosy-pink
- Blue
- More vibrant greens
- Whites, greys and some neutral tones
Red & Orange Carpet
Red and orange carpets are typically associated with stronger feelings and ‘power’. If you’re interested in learning more about the connotations of red carpets, read our blog on it!
Typically, red and orange tones are avoided because of their bold nature. However, this is nothing to stray from! As maximalism takes over the interior design scene, being bold is what it’s all about.
Red can range from being a vibrant, energetic addition to any room, to being a warm welcome and creating a cosy atmosphere. It’s excellent for adding a strong pop of colour without being ‘garish’.
For example, our Royal Charter range has a stunning, deep red. It ties spaces together and gives volume and warmth to any area.
It’s gorgeous, practical, and bold! The perfect, easy style carpet.

Red can be a harder to style carpet, due to the versatility of the colour. With so much range in the shades, tones, and warmth, it depends on your surroundings to style it.
The colours it typically goes with are:
- Whites and creams
- Blues and yellows – primary colours always work!
- Grey and black
Blue & Green Carpet
Blue and green carpets are often very calming, laid-back style carpets. They often add a sense of sophistication and luxury.
Both blue and green link to very natural environments and give a sense of clarity. They refresh your space, even in the deeper shades.
Blue and green are both very versatile shades and can blend and fit any space! Whilst staying classic, they simultaneously offer a modern look.
For this style carpet, they go well with more rustic, natural surroundings.
Again, our Royal Charter range has a beautiful pastel blue shade that creates a unique, airy look that feels light and fresh. Lighter shades give an understated power to a room, whilst deeper shades provide strength.

To style this carpet, there are a few key colour combinations that never fail to amaze. Here’s what we know goes well:
- Different shades of the same colour
- White and grey
- Pastel shades (e.g. ‘Dusty Pink’)
Gold & Yellow Carpet
Gold and yellow carpets are a hot new trend that are bleeding into more and more interior design ideas. There’s nothing like the bright and cheery look of yellow flooring!
Many people may feel intimidated with such a wild, unique colour, but it adds an irresistible pop of colour to any interior.
Yellow can be used in many ways – from creating an understated warmth, to providing intense vibrancy.
One excellent quality to yellow carpets is how they blend with their environment. Yellow and gold flooring is an amazing pair with patterns and more abstract design ideas where other colours don’t fit.
Our new Finesse and Caress ranges feature more of these modern, brighter colours, including the shade ‘Old Gold’, a brilliantly beautiful shade.
It is a plush, vibrant colour that adds a bright atmosphere to any room, and due to the contemporary ‘velvet touch’ feature, it adapts to any room its in.

In terms of pairing other colours, there are a few options that work especially well with such a striking carpet colour:
- Naturally, white and cream pairs brilliantly
- Blue is especially common, dark or light
- Natural colours like green and brown
Pink & Purple Carpet
Another colour coming into trends recently is pink! Pink and purple carpets (typically pastels) are a great way to add personality and fun into a room without it being overbearing.
It adds a sense of comfort and relaxation and eases the environment into a more positive one.
For sleek, clean looks, you can use minimalistic elements and black/dark furniture to break the space up.
A gorgeous example of one of our pink flooring options is from our Stainfree Caress range, in the shade Pink Whisper. Offering a soft yet powerful pink to match any range of interiors.

Of course, it depends on the style around the carpet and the shade of pink that you choose, but typically, these colours go well with pink or purple carpets:
- Black and grey
- White and cream
- Yellow
- Blue, especially light blue
- Green
