How To SUCCESFULLY Clean Carpet?

blog-tips

So, you’ve just bought the perfect Abingdon carpet… It’s fresh, it’s soft, and it’s a clean carpet!

There’s not a single twist out of place! But, how can we keep it that way?

Naturally, the longer you have your carpet, the more it will wear away. Don’t worry with out wear warranties, though!

A clean carpet is what helps to maintain a perfect carpet, so here are our top carpet cleaning tips!

Help With Hoovering

This may sound silly, but the way that you hoover your carpets can greatly affect them in the long run.

Whilst most hoovers nowadays are built with settings that are able to adjust to different carpet kinds and textures, sometimes it’s just not enough.

Vacuums with settings that are weak can actually damage your carpet; it will only pull on and displace the fibres without cleaning them.

This can also damage your hoover and the way it cleans carpet in the future.

It’s also worth noting – you should hoover slowly, especially in deeper piles. This allows the hoover to get up the deep dirt.

Going too fast can damage your carpet by pulling on it too quickly, and it will not truly clean your floor.

Tip One: Vacuum your carpet at least once a week with a decent hoover to prevent dirt from embedding itself in the pile.Tip Two: Consider professional cleaning every twelve months.
Two of our top tips to keeping a clean carpet.

As well as speed, there is direction!

When aiming for a clean carpet, think of it like you would mowing a lawn:

  • Go slow
  • Get every patch
  • Be steady

If you were cutting it willy-nilly, there would be way too many patches of grass that weren’t cut. There’d be a horrible pattern on your lawn too for the foreseeable future!

This is exactly what happens when you clean your carpet.

When vacuuming, try to go in slow, steady lines that are even; ensure you don’t miss any spots.

It’s also recommended to slow your pace when pulling the hoover toward your body.

This is when most of the magic happens, and its worth slowing your roll for a couple more seconds.

Tip Three; Use a door mad to reduce dirt that is tracked insideTip Four: Remove heavy furniture dents by stroking the area with the edge of a coin.

When Should You Clean Your Carpet?

Next we’ll cover how often you should be vacuuming.

Unless you love to clean carpet, hoovering is one of the more dreaded tasks – it’s a big job!

It can be strenuous, and nobody likes to pull Henry up and down the stairs.

However! If possible, you should try to hoover up once a week.

(I know, I know! Who has time for that!?)

But! When it becomes a regular task, you will find that you’re hoovering up less and less. With less built in dirt, it’s much quicker to clean your carpet.

Keeping up with it keeps your carpet clean and fresh for longer!

It is recommended that you get a professional carpet cleaning once a year regardless, to ensure that it’s renewed for longer.

How Can You Prevent Harm?

Of course, there are ways to prevent stains and lasting harm to your carpets in advance with the right research.

The material of your carpet can alter the clean up process and how we remove stains or dirt.

If you don’t know which material is best, you can see our prior blog all about the differences between polypropylene or wool carpets!

For example, our Stainfree Caress and Finesse ranges. Made with polypropylene, it’s perfect for busy households that can’t take too much time out to deep-clean carpet often.

With a modern velvet effect, it’s also stylish!

Wool carpets a naturally stain resistant too, due to the fibre build up. It offers incredible resilience to both wear and general dirt.

You’ll find that a lot of household stains are generally water based, and wool is naturally resistant to them!

Royal Sovereign in Oatcake, a beige looped wool carpet on a staircase
Our Royal Sovereign range, a 100% wool loop carpet.

The best way we can describe it, is that the wool fibres have little scales on them, due to their eco-friendly nature.

These scales have the ability to keep out a lot of external dirt and stop it from soaking in. It takes a lot longer for stains to set into wool, making it a naturally clean carpet material!
