Gary is the newest member of the Merchandising team. He brings with him a wealth of experience and we are glad to welcome him to Abingdon. We grabbed a brew and chatted to find out what he thinks of his new role…
What is your role, and how long have you worked for Abingdon Flooring?
I’m a Merchandiser for Abingdon. I’m fairly new to the business – I’ve only been here for 3 months. Everyone has made me feel extremely welcome and settled me into my new role.
What does a typical day entail?
My job is to build and install customers POS units into their stores.
We build the units, dress them with the samples, load them into the vans and go out and install them. We can travel all over the country, so we can be down south one week and Scotland the next, we get to see lots of different place and meet some great people.
We also support the Marketing team when its exhibition time, installing and helping set up the stands. I’ve not attended one yet, but I’m looking forward to my first one and looking forward to The Flooring Show in Harrogate in September.
What are your recommendations to anyone looking to start a career in Merchandising?
Make sure you enjoy it, be prepared for traveling, staying overnight, and things along that strain. The job is very sociable and you need to be good with your hands, so if you like building things and meeting new people you’ll love it.
What’s the best aspect of your job?
Having a nice team around me and getting on with them, but also going out on my own and having some peace and quiet.
Favourite Abingdon collection and why?
Royal Charter Deluxe, it’s a gorgeous new range. Amazing quality and such a classic colour bank.
