Feng shui is the practice of arranging the pieces in living spaces to create balance with the natural world.
Feng shui’s meaning can be broken down into the Chinese words “feng,” meaning wind, and “shui,” meaning water. The concept is derived from an ancient poem that talks about human life being connected to and flowing with the environment around it.
It works closely with a ‘Bagua map’, which goes over different areas of your life. Typically, you will choose three or four Bagua to work with and focus on, bringing them into your life in different ways.
These Bagua are:
- Family (Zhen)
- Wealth (xun)
- Health (Tai Qi)
- Helpful People (Qian)
- Children (Dui)
- Knowledge (Gen)
- Fame (Li)
- Career (Kan)
- Partnerships (Kun)
Now, lets get into how to use Feng Shui in your bedroom
The Do’s of Bedroom Feng Shui
The Right Colour SchemeÂ
In Feng Shui, certain colors are thought to promote maximum sensuality and peaceful vibes in the bedroom and promote restful sleep.Â
A general rule of thumb is to opt for skin tones or muted shades you find in nature.

Switch Layouts
Layouts promote harmony in a room, and there are a few general rules for arranging your furniture, for example the ‘command position’, which is where your bed should go. Your room should be evenly spaced and welcome in a natural flow of movement. Â
Pair Everything
In Feng Shui, pairs are said to promote loving, harmonious energy. Â Try to balance the room with 2 nightstands, 2 dressers, a double bed, or 2 seats. Â
Accessories Bring It Together
When looking for which elements to use in your spaces, it’s worth consulting a Bagua map to see which elements you need. Assign a room one or two areas of the map and work on those in terms of colour.
Work on the 5 senses: smell, touch, sight, sound and taste

Here we can see our Stainfree Caress range in Pink Whisper. According to the Bagua map we mentioned before the use of colour is important. In this example pink manifests love and relationships, whilst green manifests new beginnings.
The Don’ts Of Bedroom Feng Shui
Limit The TechÂ
Try to limit the technology, if any. Make it a completely relaxed, tech-free zone to truly rewind and relax.Â

Mirrors
In feng shui, it’s said that mirrors in front of the bed invite a third person into the marriage. Mirrors are also thought to reflect energy around a space, which could disrupt your sleep.
If you do need to have a mirror, make sure it’s facing and reflecting something that you love looking at. (This may seem like common sense, but it’s something a lot of us forget about!)Â
Plants And Water
This may sound odd, but in Feng Shui there is such a thing as ‘too many plants’. We’re not saying to take out all of the plants you have in there, but to limit them. They’re thought to be too ‘growth’ and ‘strength’ oriented to have in a room like a bedroom.  Keeping water features in the bedroom is a major feng shui taboo. No fountains and no pictures or paintings of boats on the ocean, rivers, harbors.Â

Under The Bed Messes
Clutter under the bed creates unnecessary stress and headaches. Bedrooms should be clean and clear to have full, relaxing potential, and you shouldn’t be worried about what might be under them.
Large or looming furnitureÂ
Try not to have any large, limiting furniture. Try to swap out any pieces of furniture that perhaps make you feel oppressed or cramped
